Dromore as the young eyes have it

Canvastone, a small bespoke gallery space, will present an exhibition of historic Dromore, on May 27 and 28 from 9am to 5pm.

It will also include ‘Glimpse’ - a portrayal of Dromores’ medieval and industrial histories and present day as viewed through the eyes of the area’s young people.

The event is directed and produced by Adam Wilson, a graduate in fine art and David Copeland, a second year photography student.

The exhibition includes a range of interpretative images created on a variety of print media.

The event is a first for Dromore and it’s hoped it will appeal to visitors to Northern Ireland and locals alike, offering an opportunity to savour a little of the long medieval history of Dromore and discover something of the potential that Dromore can offer as a destination.

Development Manager Frazer McCammond said he was excited about the project.

“It is an opportunity not only to reflect the ‘bird’s-eye’ view of Dromore as seen by our young people and to have them involved in the process,” he said, “but to also give our talented young volunteers an opportunity to visually express their artistic gifts and skillsets to a much wider audience.

“Of course we also wish to raise the profile of the Canvastone project and to encourage others to view Dromore as an unfulfilled tourism opportunity waiting to happen. I would certainly encourage as many of your readers as possible to put these dates in their diaries.

“I would thank the Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon Council for their financial support, without which this event would not be possible,

“I would also wish to thank Dromore Youth for Christ for facilitating our workshop and Alan and Angela Magowan at Café Thyme.”

Canvastone is a social enterprise business located at 18 Bridge Street, Dromore and managed by a cross-community voluntary board, seeking to provide training and full-time work opportunities for disadvantaged young people.
