Dromore to host first 12th demonstration in 16 years

Dromore will play host to the 2016 Twelfth parade for the first time in 16 years and approximately 100 lodges and up to 80 bands are expected to take part.

Organisers anticipate as many as 20,000 people will be in attendance to enjoy the pageantry and the music, as the town plays host to the largest demonstration in Co Down.

A total of eight districts will take part in proceedings – with Orangemen and women from Bann Valley, Rathfriland, Banbridge, Lower Iveagh West, Loughbrickland, Gilford and Newry on parade with host district, Lower Iveagh.

A number of Lambeg drums and all genres of music provided by a host of high calibre bands will add to the carnival atmosphere.

The main parade will leave Ballymacormick Road at 12 noon and parade through the town centre to the demonstration field, located on the Lurgan Road.

All parade participants will pass under an impressive Orange arch, located in Market Square, which was formally dedicated last summer.

Among the senior Orangemen on the platform at the field will be the Grand Master of County Down, Sam Walker, who will provide the main address. The return parade is due to commence at 3.45pm.
