The annual Women’s World Day of Prayer service was held in Dromore Methodist Church and was attended by almost 90 women from many of the churches across the town including 1st Dromore Presbyterian, Ban Road Presbyterian, Dromore Cathedral, St.Colman’s, and the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian church.

Ladies from all these churches read different parts of the service and brought items to make up a ‘tableau’ at the front of the church representing the various elements and the historical heritage of the country of Egypt whose national committee had produced the service this
year.

The speaker at the service was Mrs. Hazel Loney a Methodist local preacher from the Glenavy and Moira Circuit who spoke on the theme of the service which was ‘Streams in the Desert’ and brought fresh insight to the reading from John’s Gospel of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman.

Mrs. Loney also gave many reasons why Christians should be thankful for Egypt throughout its long history as the cradle of civilisation, the birthplace of the Septuagint, a place of refuge for Joseph’s brothers and the Holy Family, and an important centre of learning for the early church.

The music for the service was provided by a choir made up of ladies from all of the churches involved, ably directed from the organ by Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald.

After what was a hugely enjoyable and thought-provoking service, tea and biscuits were served in the hall by the ladies of the Methodist Church.

The service next year will be held in Dromore Cathedral and all are welcome to attend.
