A PPS prosecutor explained how at 5.40pm Macauley was observed carrying a rucksack full of alcohol.

He was extremely intoxicated and advised to get on his bus and go home. He gave verbal abuse to officers and bus inspectors would not allow him onboard.

He became violent and had to be handcuffed. He continued to scream and swear while being taken into custody.

A solicitor said it was a simple case of a man taking far too much alcohol.

“He has accepted from the outset that he conducted himself in a way that was not acceptable and apologises.”

The court then heard details of a second incident on 1 August when he was stopped by police for making noise.

He responded to police with foul language and eventually was arrested and cautioned.

His solicitor said he took issue with the fact he was stopped “for no reason.”

He was fined £150 for this offence.
