Wesley Redmond (51), Ballygowan Road, Dromore, admitted not having a vehicle test certificate and a defective front offside headlight on January 18 this year.

The court heard that at 10pm on the Scarva Road, Banbridge, he was stopped by police who noticed the light was completely out and the test certificate had expired.

Redmond said that he had two vehicles, a van and a car, and had mixed them up.

He went the next day, got a cancellation and got a test certificate.

Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers fined him £75 for the test certificate and £50 for the headlight offence.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The defendant then commented ‘it was a dear bulb’ and explained that there were five lights on the front of the car.

The judge then said she did not often change her mind but would on this occasion and instead of the £50 fine she imposed a conditional discharge for two years.
