Dromore leads the way in awards race

Dromore Community Centre and Dromore Councillor Olive Mercer have helped win the district council two places on the shortlist for the Local

Government Awards

Northern Ireland.

The local authority is shortlisted two categories of the prestigious awards, Dromore Community Centre in the Best Local Authority Service Team category, with Council Chairman Mrs Mercer and Councillor Marie Hamilton selected as finalists in the Best Initiative by a Councillor/Councillors category, this for the Banbridge Good Relations Project.

The Local Government Awards Northern Ireland showcase the best examples of service provision, new initiatives and personal commitment from councils, councillors and officers across local government in Northern Ireland.

They offer public recognition while awarding excellence in frontline local government public services.

The awards continue to go from strength to strength; 2013 was the sixth year of the competition and the organisers were thrilled with a substantial increase in the number of applications this year.

Councils throughout Northern Ireland submitted entries across seven categories with a total of 74 entries received.

The judges have remarked on the high quality of services and initiatives put forward - as well as individual councillors and officer’s commitment to their roles, by declaring the exceptional standards highlights how councils across Northern Ireland are going the extra mile to deliver the best services to citizens and communities.

The awards are delivered by six partners who join together to provide the opportunity to assess and recognise best practice in the services and new initiatives provided within Northern Ireland’s councils.

The judging panels look for evidence of best practice, innovation and service improvement while providing better outcomes for the service users.

The overall winners of the 2013 Local Government Awards Northern Ireland will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner hosted by Pamela Ballantine taking place on Thursday February 27 at La Mon Hotel, Castlereagh.
