Dromore beekeepers deliver course

Dromore Beekeepers Association will deliver a course preparing for the Federation of Irish Beekeeping Association Intermediate Certificate Practical written exam over 15 evenings from September 22.

The certificate is open to holders of the FIBKA Preliminary Beekeeping certificate (or equivalent).

Practical: (From September 22) Migratory beekeeping, queen rearing, nuclei management, disease and pest control, equipment, show preparation of honey and wax, legislation and starting up.

Scientific: (15 evenings next year) - External and internal features of the honeybee, its life cycle, the work done, methods of communication, reproduction, brood and adult bee diseases, pollination, honey and swarming.

Apiary Practical: The practical sessions beginning inSeptember will be supported with apiary workshops teaching techniques over two or three summers. There is a written exam at the end of both Practical and Scientific parts. The Apiary Practical assessment will be held in the candidate’s own apiary.

The Practical written exami course will be delivered at Dromore High School by Vanessa Drew of Dromore BKA.
