Driving ban and fine for woman who thought she was insured

A 21-year-old woman who wrongly believed she was insured to drive a car was banned from the roads for 12 months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Danielle Hudson, Highfield Gardens, Banbridge, was also fined £300 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for driving without insurance on October 27.

The court heard a number of people were seen getting into a car at the Tesco store on the Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, and making off.

Police recognised the defendant as the driver.

They later called at her home where she was cautioned for the offence.

A solicitor representing Hudson said the car belonged to her mother’s partner.

She explained that the defendant was fully insured to drive her own car and was told she was insured to drive this car. She believed she was insured.

The solicitor added that she was going through a difficult time in her life with the breakdown of her relationship with her mother.
