Driver was moving her car a short distance

Moving her car a short distance to another parking space in Dromore led to a 20-year-old woman getting a 12 month driving ban last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Amy Connor, Brackenhill Road, Ballinderry Upper, Lisburn, was also fined £250 for driving with excess alcohol in blood on May 24 this year.

She was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

She was considered suitable for a drink driving course which, if she completes it, would reduce her ban by three months.

The court heard that police were carrying out a vehicle checkpoint on the Dromore Road, Banbridge, when at 1.35am they saw a vehicle stop short of the checkpoint and go into a housing development.

They spoke to the defendant whose breath smelled of alcohol and she failed a roadside breath.

An evidential test gave a reading of 41 and a blood test gave a reading of 84, four over the limit.

A solicitor representing the defendant said she was just moving the car 50 yards to put it in another parking place.

He added that she was shocked to find herself in this position.

She was just on the wrong side of the limit, the solicitor added.
