Driver safety event for Dromore pupils

Speaking on behalf of Banbridge PCSP, the Vice-Chair Mr Jonathan Murphy, commented, “The YPAD project was launched in September this year with the final event being at the Southern Regional College Banbridge campus on March 5 2014.

“The support of the post-primary principals must be acknowledged, and the involvement of representatives from the PSNI, the SELB and the NIFRS in the project reflects the commitment of the PCSP Partners to taking a joined-up approach that will help make our local communities safer.”

Successful

He continued, “The PCSP has also recently been successful in securing funding from the first round of the Assets Recovery Community Scheme which will enable three additional projects to be delivered locally.

“One of these is projects will be four Enhanced YPAD events which will involve local students in Years 13 and 14 as new and often inexperienced young drivers.”

Around 25 students participated in the final YPAD session at Dromore High School which is supported by Banbridge PCSP to raise awareness with young passengers about the potential consequences of anti-social driving and unsafe practices like distracting the driver or getting into a car if you have even the slightest concern that the ability of the driver is impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.

These simple but critical messages are put across to the students by engaging them in three workshops delivered on behalf of the PCSP by the following project partners:

PSNI Road Policing and Dromore Neighbourhood Officers; the SELB senior youth worker for Banbridge; officers from NI Fire and Rescue; and employees from Allstate NI who promote the ‘X The Text’ campaign.

Banbridge PCSP is also working with the DoE to promote their current community campaign, ‘Share the Road to Zero’ through the YPAD sessions.
