Driver crashed into electric fence

A CAR driven by a Lurgan woman collided with a gate and electric fence at Oxford Island.

When police arrived on the scene they found that she displayed symptoms of having consumed alcohol, Craigavon Magistrates Court has heard.

Charlotte Murnaghan (21), of Glenfield Road, was fined 300 and disqualified for 12 months at Friday’s court, for driving with excess alcohol in the blood.

She was also fined 50, with six months concurrent ban, for driving without due care and attention on July 11 last, and 25 for damaging the fence.

District Judge Alan White certified Murnaghan as suitable to take part in a programme for disqualified drivers, with a three month reduction in the ban, if completed. A prosecuting lawyer said the damage amounted to 200, and blood samples taken from the defendant showed a reading of 115 milligrams of alcohol - the limit is 80. A defending solicitor said the defendant, who had a clear record, had been experiencing a very difficult time in her life at the time of the accident. He said the damage had been met by her insurance, and his client was remorseful about the incident.
