DPP lobbies to brass on detention centre

A TOP-level meeting is to be held this week to discuss plans for a holding centre for illegal immigrants at Larne police station.

Chairman Mark Dunn will head a Larne and District Policing Partnership delegation at the meeting with the Policing Board, an assistanat chief constable and a representative of the Home Office-controlled United Kingdom Boarder Agency, which wants to build an extention at the Hope Street site to accommodate up to 22 detainees for up to five days.

The controversial application prompted a protest outside a recent Larne council meeting by the BNP.
