Ulster Unionist Assembly candidate Jo-Anne Dobson has predicted a high turn-out of voters in this Thursday’s Upper Bann Assembly election.

Mrs Dobson said that in the previous 2011 Assembly Election statistics for Upper Bann show that almost 45 per cent of local voters chose not to exercise their democratic right at the ballot box, however this reduced to 41% at last year’s Westminster election.

Mrs Dobson said: “I am confident that by once again presenting a positive message to local people, that this Thursday we will have a much higher voter turn-out than in previous elections.

“I predicted this last year too and we saw an around 10% increase which is a very welcome trend.

“I am absolutely delighted by the reception which I and my campaign team have been receiving on the doorsteps.

“Across my home town of Banbridge and the surrounding rural areas I have received very encouraging signs, not just from those who have voted for the Ulster Unionist Party in the past but also from people who say they are engaged by this election.

“They recognise the work which I and our representatives have been doing locally, and as a result they will be voting for the first time!

“Our campaign is based on a proven track record of delivery both locally and at Stormont and hard work on issues including health, education and backing local business. “As in all previous elections I remain totally focused on delivering a positive message to the doorsteps, and a meaningful return to local people, if re-elected to serve as their MLA.”

Mrs Dobson concluded: “I was born, brought up, and educated in Upper Bann – it’s in my DNA - and I feel that is why I’m receiving a fantastic reception on the doorsteps, often from people who have chosen not to vote in previous elections.

“I sincerely believe the people of Upper Bann will vote out of hope and not out of fear and will return a strong and united Ulster Unionist team to best represent their interests.”
