District students contribute to cyber-bullying forum

Young people from across the district took part in a forum held to debate cyber-bullying and internet trolling.

Twenty-four post-primary students from Upper Bann meet in Craigavon Borough Council chamber where they heard from Dr Arthur Cassidy who is working throughout the United Kingdom to tackle cyber bullying and internet trolling.

Local PSNI Officers also addressed the forum on the criminal implications of cyber crime.

Upper Bann MP, David Simpson, who helped organised the forum, said: “Modern technology has made our younger generation more vulnerable to cyber bullying and internet trolling. I am committed to doing whatever I can to educate this generation.

“I believe the most effective way to do this was to engage with young people to hear of their experiences and their ideas of how we tackle this growing phenomenon.”

David Simpson commended the young people for taking part and looks forward to meeting again in January. “It is not always easy to discuss these issues with adults. The meeting was very productive and I appreciated the students sharing their experiences.”
