Get on your bike for the Galway to Hillsborough Cycle which takes place from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 September as part of this year’s Hillsborough International Oyster Festival extended programme.
Cycling enthusiasts can gear up for 200 miles of fun with a full-packed itinerary of leisure cycling and great craic.
After travelling from Hillsborough by a private bus, participants will arrive at the Meyrick Hotel in Galway for lunch with the Mayor of Galway and presentation of a basket of oysters which the cyclists will have the task of transporting back to Hillsborough.
The group will then cycle to the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone where they will have full access to the health suite and pool facilities to ensure that they are revitalised for their next leg to Canal Court Hotel in Newry.
There, the cyclists will swap their chamois for suits and dresses and be taken by taxi to Hillsborough for the annual Oyster and Pearl Blues Brothers Ball.
At this glamorous event, the riders will present the oysters to the Mayor of Lisburn City & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett, before feasting on a gourmet meal.
After a great evening of dining and dancing the group will return to Canal Court to sleep off the excess calories before completing their last jaunt back to Hillsborough on 5 September.
On what is sure to be a great trip, the Cycle’s organiser Andrew Wilson said, “The Galway to Hillsborough Cycle is a regular highlight of the Oyster Festival which both the Hillsborough community and the Galway community look forward to each year.
The organising committee is sure that this year’s cycle will be just as fun as the previous cycles.”
In addition to the main sponsor, Bridge Commercials Ltd, this three-day event is also supported by Chain Reaction and Phoenix Natural Gas.
