Dearly loved husband and devoted father

THE passing of Mr Robert Mulligan McKnight took place at his home at 41 Ballymoney Road, Banbridge on Saturday February 6. Roy, as he was affectionately known to his many friends, was the dearly loved husband of Millicent and the devoted father of Ashley.

He was just 62 years of age. After leaving school he went to work in Down Shoes for 40 years. He met Millicent and they were married for 38 years.

After the closure of the shoe factory he went to work as a lorry driver at a building company. He was associated with his late father Robert who won the King’s Cup with one of their pigeons.

He enjoyed following the County Down staghounds and was keen on rearing Bantams, and many received some of which he had hatched out.

He was a member of Bannside Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife Millicent, son Ashley, Ashley’s girlfriend Kirsty, three brothers Syd, Trevor and Raymond, and two sisters Yvonne and Elsie (Crumlin).

To these and all the other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from his home on Monday February 8 for a service in Bannside Presbyterian Church, which was filled to capacity.

The congregation heard his minister Reverend Dr Mark Gray pay a fitting tribute to Roy’s life.

The hymns “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Abide With Me” were sung.

Mr W Chambers presided at the organ. The Interment took place in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed n the grave and donations in lieu are being sent to William Bell & Co Funeral Directors at 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge BT32 3LR for the District Marie Curie Nurses.

William Bell & Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
