DCC owns a motor for every 8 workers

DERRY City Council owns a vehicle for every eight workers, the Sentinel can reveal.

As well as the Mayor’s car (Audi A8 Quattro), numerous bin lorries and road sweepers, and two gumbusters, the local authority owns several Landrovers, vans and flatbeds. In all, the Council fleet currently comprises 80 vehicles.

Proving details of the assets in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, City Engineer John Kelpie explained that all of the Council’s Fleet Assets are purchased outright and that it only hires vehicles to fulfill short-term requirements.
