David was a cheery and friendly man

Mr David William Gray died suddenly at Iveagh House Private Nursing Home, on Friday May 2.

Davie, who was in his 96th year, was the dearly loved husband of the late Agnes who predeceased him 15 months ago.

They lived for a number of years at Ballievey before coming to Banbridge, where they lived at 
Ballygowan Park.

Born at the home farm at Ballievey Road, Davie worked all his life there, and then worked for Bibby’s and Ballievey Bleaching Company.

A man of a cheery and friendly disposition, David was greatly interested in Cage Birds, especially Yorkshires. He was an honorary member of Banbridge Cage Birds Society, had won many prizes and was also a judge. A lot of people who drove up the Castlewellan Road were familiar with his Peacock sitting on the wall, and it was greatly admired.

He had a big interest in the Pony Clubs around the district. Davie was a member of Tullyconnaught LOL 724 and Bethlehem Guiding Star RBP 508.

He was a former member of Magherally Parish Church and on coming to Banbridge joined Holy Trinity 
Parish Church.

He is survived by his daughter Eileen, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, Eileen’s partner Tommy, brother Cecil (Ballievey), sister Mary (Coleraine), and several nephews and nieces.

To these and all other relatives, sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place on Monday May 5 from William Bell and Co Funeral Home which was overflowing, to the New Cemetery where the Rev R Diffin and Captain Geoffrey Walmsley officiated.

The hymns ‘What a friend we have in Jesus’ and ‘Abide with Me’ were sung. Miss Margaret Stevenson presided at the organ.

The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery where floral tributes were placed on the grave.

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
