David to shave his head in aid of charity

David will be supporting Banbridge Action Cancer’s Paint the Town Pink campaign which runs throughout October, with various fundraising events taking place in the town.

David said: “I volunteer with a lot of charities through my job as Community Champion but the ladies at Action Cancer usually do three or four events a year with us and I’ve worked with them for about for or five years.

“I wanted to help out with their Paint the Town Pink campaign and we were trying to come up with ideas for fundraising.”

David explains how they settled on a head shave.

He said: “I’ve done sponsored swims before and other things like that but I thought a ehad shave was appropriate for cancer as it shows what people have to go through.

“I’m a bit nervous about it as I’m getting on a bit now and I don’t know how much of it is going to grow back.”

Cancer has personally affected David and is another motivating factor behind his fundraising.

He said: “On a personal level like must families in Northern Ireland, I have been touched by cancer. My dad, Uncle Billy and Aunt Jean lost their battle with cancer.

“On the positive side my mum is in remission after overcoming Breast Cancer 3 times and she is a true inspiration.”

The head shave will be taking place at 4.30pm on Saturday 3 October at Tesco Bridgewater in Banbridge.

Banbridge will go pink for Action Cancer on October 3 with all kinds of interesting decorations around the town and in the shop windows.

The Action Cancer Big Bus mobile screening service will be at the Leisure Centre that day.
