Dairy farmers protest price drop

UPPER Bann MP David Simpson has joined dairy farmers at a protest in London at falling milk prices.

The DUP politician said the situation had now reached an “unacceptable” point and added his voice to those in support of the farmers.

“Farmers from all across the UK are suffering as a result of a drop in milk prices in recent months. “This has left farmers in a position of not being able to cover their production cost and they are making a loss on every litre of milk produced.

“Farmers on mainland GB have seen milk prices fall to 25 pence per litre. But here in Northern Ireland prices have fallen to less than 21 pence.

”This is an unacceptable state of affairs and I was delighted to be able to join party colleagues at the large protest in London.

“It is vital that action is taken to ensure that prices improve for Northern Ireland dairy farmers.”
