Custody warning for man who resisted police

Martin Doran (20), Rosmoyle, Craigavon, admitted resisting a constable on August 2 and assaulting a constable on July 13 this year.

He was given a combination order of 18 months on probation and 100 hours community service.

The court heard that on August 2 police were called to a domestic incident and while they were arresting the defendant he resisted police by pulling away from them.

On July 13 police were called to an alleged criminal damage offence at River Glade Manor. Doran was arrested and on his way to the custody suite he assaulted an officer.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said that the relationship between Doran and his mother had improved and he had been bailed to her address.

He asked the court to give the defendant the chance to see if he could stay off alcohol.

Mr Downey said overindulgence in alcohol had been Doran’s problem and there was a favourable recommendation in the pre-sentence report.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, said he would not invoke a three month suspended sentence hanging over the defendant.

But he warned him if he failed to abide by the combination order he would impose the three months and add another three months on top of that sentence.
