Warning after pup is injured in dog attack

A DROMORE man who says his months-old pup was savaged by a ‘pitbull-type dog’ in an unprovoked attack last week, said he shuddered to think what might have happened had his young children been with him at the time.

Paul Graham said his dog suffered severe facial wounds in the incident at the Barban Hill/Banbridge Road junction last Tuesday evening.

He is now warning local dog-walkers to be on the lookout for the “dangerous animal”.

“This unprovoked attack caused severe facial wounds to my spaniel pup,” he said, “but it could have been far worse if I hadn’t managed to get the other dog to release my dog from its jaws.

“I would just like to draw the attention of other dog-walkers in Dromore to this incident and advise them to avoid the dog if they come across it.”

He added, “My issue is not with the dog, but with its owners, who in my opinion should muzzle these dangerous dogs.

“I am just relieved that my young children were not with me at the time as I shudder to think what injuries or trauma may have occurred.”

Mr. Graham said he had reported the incident to police and had subsequently spoken to the district council.

“I have contacted the PSNI who say that it’s an issue for dog control,” he said, “and having contacted dog control in Banbridge council, although they were very helpful and sympathised with me, they said they could do nothing about the incident unless they knew who the dog’s owners were.”

Mr. Graham finally thanked the Dromore vets who ‘patched-up’ his pet.

“Hopefully no long-term effects will be suffered as a result of this tramatic incident,” he said.
