Uninsured driver had a bag of cannabis in the car

When police noticed the smell of cannabis coming from a car they discovered the driver had some of the drug on him and he was driving uninsured.

Daniel Sean Casey, (29) of Burn Brae, Banbridge, was fined £150 last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court for unlawful possession of cannabis on August 12, 2016.

He was also fined £200, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points for driving without insurance.

The court heard Casey was stopped by police who noticed a smell of cannabis coming from the car. he produced a small bag of herbal cannabis which he said was for his own use.

Casey was not covered by an insurance certificate which was in his mother’s name. Hie solicitor said it was his girlfriend’s car.
