Samurai sword slasher jailed

A MAN who wounded a woman with a Samurai sword before going on a rampage through Banbridge town with the weapon has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Thomas Pearse of Iveagh Close pleaded guilty to five charges last Tuesday, including false imprisonment, wounding and threatening to kill his female victim during the incident in May last year

The 26-year-old was also convicted of possession of an offensive weapon - namely a Samurai sword that was never recovered - and possession of Class A drug cocaine.

Pearse will remain under licence for a further two years after he is released.
