THE bombers who targeted a retired policewoman in Laurencetown last week have a “reckless disregard for the life and limb of ordinary people”.
Upper Bann MP David Simpson was speaking after the viable device had been made safe by Army Technical Officers.
“People in this part of Northern Ireland have suffered more than enough from terrorist activity down the years,” he said.
“Those who left this device showed a reckless disregard for the life and limb of ordinary people. A number of local people were forced out of their homes for a lengthy period of time while the security forces dealt with what was a viable device.
“But suppose it hadn’t been the army, but a young child who ended up handling this device? Would the injuring or death of a child have been a price worth paying for whatever perverted notion such people have of a future society?
“I would appeal to anyone with any information no matter how insignificant it might seem to them to go immediately to the PSNI. We need to get these people off the streets and behind bars where they belong.”
