Police take zero-tolerance
approach to careless drivers

Police in Banbridge are taking a zero-tolerance approach to reckless drivers

Their message comes after a number of reports of dangerous driving in the Commercial Road Car Park, including cars spinning their tyres, performing handbrake turns and speeding.

“Any driver who takes part in this type of reckless activity is not only taking their own life in their hands but is also jeopardising the wellbeing of anyone in the immediate vicinity,” said Constable Hoyle of the Banbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“We have increased our patrols in the area and will enforce a zero tolerance policy for any motorist found driving in this manner. We have the power to seize a vehicle if it is driven on a public road or place in a manner that causes alarm, distress or annoyance. We also have the power to prosecute or issue fixed penalty tickets for any motoring offence detected. I would encourage anyone who has information in relation to driving of this nature to contact police so that we can respond and make detections.”
