Police reveal hidden cost of cash for gold

POLICE in E District will advise Cash for Gold outlets and jewellery businesses of the hidden cost of paying cash for gold at an upcoming crime prevention event in Bannville House Hotel.

Jewellers from Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry are invited to attend the event which will begin at 6pm on Thursday evening, October 4.

Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Wilson explained: “Fifty per cent of all domestic burglaries involve the theft of jewellery and a considerable amount of this is sold through cash for gold schemes and jewellers.

“This can result in a significant monetary loss for the business if they fall victim to buying stolen goods.

“The information evening will provide advice and guidance on how business owners can protect themselves from this type of crime. We will also share details of new schemes we have put in place to help detect and deter those who sell stolen jewellery.”
