A Rathfriland man on remand for a series of theft charges, last Thursday asked a Judge not to release him on bail.
Robert Cochrane (18) from Ulster Avenue, told Judge Copeland that if released he “honestly didn’t think” he could behave himself and stay out of trouble.
Judge Copeland remarked on Cochrane’s very “honest and frank” remarks.
Cochrane also told the court, “At the minute I am in a programme to help with my drug addiction and other problems and I would like to maintain that instead of being released.”
He added, “In custody I am learning how to combat anti-social behaviour and I don’t feel ready to go out with no home address and support.”
He then thanked Judge Copeland for not granting him bail and was told that he will be produced again in court on 13 November.
