NI council uses CCTV at anti-social behaviour hotspot

After another weekend of trouble at Tandragee Recreation Centre, it has been revealed that Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council is employing CCTV to monitor the situation.

Police said they had received multiple reports of anti social behaviour in that area on Saturday night. “This is an ongoing cause of concern for local residents. We would ask parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts.”

DUP Cllr Gareth Wilson said: “This has been an ongoing issue and along with the monitoring of this problem by our council staff through CCTV, the PSNI are also keen to continue to monitor and respond to these instances. It is unfortunate that this type of antisocial behaviour is once again a feature of the park and I know that families have been put off from using the park.”

Ulster Unionist Cllr Jim Speers said the level of anti-social behaviour is ‘intolerable’ particularly for residents. He said he has been contacted by a number of people and will be raising it at council.

“It is unacceptable and should be dealt with,” said Cllr Speers. He said he recognised that some young people feel bored and disillusioned during Lockdown but that this was no excuse.

Independent Unionist Paul Berry, who has been working with police and residents in recent weeks, branded the recent behaviour as ‘totally unacceptable’. “It had ceased but sadly it is back and I would appeal to the youths to cease immediately on health grounds and general nuisance.”
