Man hit his partner with plastic tube

A 39-year-old man hit his partner with a plastic tube, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

He was Slawomir Giersendorf, of Colban Crescent, Lurgan, and he admitted unlawful assault on a female on May 21 this year.

The court heard that at 5.10pm police were called to a domestic incident at Colban Crescent.

The injured party alleged that her partner had assaulted her using a plastic tube. She was holding her side. A five-year-old child was present at the time.

The defendant had driven off but he was stopped by police in Castle Lane Mews and taken to the custody suite at Lurgan police station.

There he made a no comment interview.

His partner made a statement of complaint but said she did not want a prosecution.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said thankfully matters had calmed down now.

He said his client was seeking assistance with his alcohol addiction and had been sober since this incident.

Mr Downey told the court that the family was now back together as a unit.

The defendant was ashamed of what had happened and has accepted he was completely in the wrong, said Mr Downey.

District Judge Mr Mervyn Bates decided to adjourn sentence in the case until a pre-sentence report was prepared.

This was because, he added, it involved domestic violence, there was a child present and an implement was used.

The case was adjourned until October 2.
