Man in court on VAT fraud offences

A Banbridge man is to stand trial on a number of VAT fraud evasion charges.

Robert David Aubrey Martin (40) from Drumaghadone Road, appeared at a Preliminary Enquiry at last week’s local Magistrates Court. He was returned for trial at Newry Crown Court on 18 March after the District Judge Mr Paul Copeland said he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

Martin is charged between 1 April 2010 and 28 February 2013, being involved in the fraudulent evasion of VAT in relation to false VAT repayment claims. He faces an additional two counts of VAT fraud involving two handwritten false invoices - allegedly on 14 March 2013.

No bail conditions were sought and Martin was returned on continuing bail of £1,000 to appear on 18 March.
