Locals must give information

THE local community in Laurencetown must come forward with any information in order to catch those responsible for leaving a pipe bomb outside a former policewoman’s home last week, said Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Curran.

Councillor Curran said, ”This incident, caused distress to local people, disrupted life in this rural community and diverted the local police from their daily job of combating the scourge of illegal drugs, burglary and theft and violent assaults that affect all of us.”

While no-one has yet claimed responsibility for the device, Mr Curran said some people think there is a small group who may have been involved.

“It is not clear, at this point, who was responsible for this device, but there is a view that a very small criminal element which had previously attempted to brand the area as unsafe for the PSNI may have been responsible.”

He said this incident has simply served to galvanise support for the local community policing team.
