Licence delays motoring case

Mooney admitted driving without insurance on May 5 this year, when, it was said, he was stopped while driving a van at Newry’s Old Warrenpoint Road and found not to be on the insurance policy.

He insisted he was insured but failed to produce proof within seven days, accepting at Banbridge police station on May 12 that he did not have insurance.

Mooney’s solicitor said there would be an exceptional hardship application, as his client had six points on his licence from two speeding offences.

On learning he only had the plastic part of the licence in court, District Judge, Paul Copeland, adjourned the case until August 18 to allow production of the counterpart.
