Judgement ‘will end harrowing time for family

JO-ANNE Dobson says that she hopes the judgement handed down to Wooton and McConville will ease the Carroll family’s pain.

Commenting following the judgement the Ulster Unionist MLA said: “These guilty verdicts bring to an end a long and harrowing time for the Carroll family and whilst closure has been brought following this heinous murder the ripples of hurt will remain with this family forever.

“My thoughts are with Kate and the members of her family who have endured a long and difficult period in their lives. No-one can comprehend the strain placed upon Kate and her extended family following the callous murder or her husband in the line of duty. She has borne this tragic loss with both dignity and resilience and is to be admired by all who sympathise greatly with her.

“We hear so many times that cases have not been brought to a satisfactory conclusion and justice has not been done. However, the PSNI are to be highly commended for their professional and methodical handling of this case which has resulted in justice for the murder of Constable Carroll.

“The judgement of the court is to be welcomed by the community both in Banbridge and Lurgan, where Constable Carroll worked and was held in such high regard for his service and dedication to duty.”
