Fewer attacks of vandalism at centre

REDUCED levels of vandalism in Rathfriland were welcomed by local councillors at the monthly meeting of Banbridge District Council last Monday night.

Councillor Patrick McAleenan said he was happy now the vandalism problem at Rathfriland Enterprise Centre had been brought under control, as concern had been mounting over random attacks on the premises.

At an earlier meeting, Councillor Elizabeth Ingram asked for more “robust signage” to be installed at the centre and although the level of vandalism had been reduced in the area, she called for the PSNI and other agencies to “keep the situation under control”.

Council Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway, said the sign belonged to Banbridge District Enterprises and the Board had been concerned at the level of vandalism at the centre.

He said the aim of the enterprise centre was to bring additional employment into the town, but the continued attacks were “driving business away”.
