Criminal assets fund community projects

HUNDREDS of pounds in funding for new police and community projects across the district has been received from the Assets Recovery Incentive Scheme.

The Neighbourhood Policing teams applied for funding for workshops on anti-social behaviour, domestic violence and internet safety.

Sergeant Billy Stewart explained that their applications had to compete against many others from police forces across Northern Ireland and said he was grateful the money had been made available to them.

“These are the proceeds of crime and we are glad the money is being put back into the community to be used in a productive way.”

Funding was also received recently from the Big Lottery project and will be used in a pilot scheme in the Banbridge area which will see 15 children from the four main secondary schools take part in an outdoor excursion.
