A drunk driver who crashed into a wall and then left the scene was banned from the roads for 16 months at the last sitting of Banbridge Magistrates Court.
Mark Hunt (19), Church Meadows, Dromore, was also fined £100, with a £15 offender’s levy, for driving with excess alcohol on his breath on August 17. Concurrent £100 fines and 16 month bans were imposed for failing to remain at the scene, failing to report an accident and not having insurance. Hunt was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that at 3.55am police received a report of car involved in a collision at Drombroneth Road, Dromore. A gate post was damaged.
Police established who owned the vehicle and went to a house a short distance away.
They spoke to Hunt and noticed he had dried blood on his nostril which was matched to blood in the car.
The defendant denied being the driver but after failing a preliminary breath test he took an evidential test which gave a reading of 97 – 62 over the limit.
A solicitor for Hunt said this an was incredibly stupid thing to do and Hunt was lucky that he only hit a wall.
