In a hurry to get to Lisburn a 28-year-old woman was detected driving at 99mph on the A1 carriageway near Banbridge.
Sarah Louise Caldwell, Armagh Road, Newry, admitted the excess speed offence which happened on August 29 last year. She was fined £150 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given four penalty points.
The court heard that shortly before 9am police were carrying out speed detection duties on the A1 near Banbridge.
Caldwell was detected travelling at 99mph in the 60mph zone. Because of her speed she could not be issued with a fixed penalty notice.
A solicitor representing the defendant said she was due to be in Lisburn at 9.30am.
She added that her client understood the difficulty she was in but she required her licence which was part and parcel of her job.
