It was in December 2012 that thieves made off with £2,000 worth of equipment from Dromore based charity Angling First

Now, Dromore’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have stumped up a £200 donation to show their continuing support for the local fishery with whom they have worked closely in providing for young people locally and further afield.

The local neighbourhood team work extensively with Angling First in the annual inter-schools angling competition.

The competition offers young people the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor sport while developing beneficial relationships and interpersonal skills and encourages cross-community engagement between local youths.

Dromore police praised Angling First for providing direction, guidance and instruction for young people, using their extensive experience in working with youth groups from all over Northern Ireland.

Officers presented the charity’s Mr. Mark McGivern with a cheque for £200.

“We have worked with Mark and Angling First for a number of years,” said Constable Alex Swan, “and the amount of time and enthusiasm he has put into working with young people from the local area has been invaluable.

“A number of youths who have attended the angling competition in previous years now volunteer for Mark at Angling First.

“We are delighted to be able to support Angling First with this donation.”
