Bogus school collectors strike again

POLICE in Banbridge are reminding householders not to offer money to callers to your door unless you are sure of their identity.

The reminder follows an incident in the Summerhill area on Thursday, 22 March, when two young boys called to a house claiming to be collecting for charity. The householder asked them for identification and they ran off.

Police contacted local schools who confirmed that none of them were collecting for this specific charity.

This is the second incident of this nature in the Banbridge area over the last few weeks.

Police would advise householders to confirm the identity of anyone who calls to your home requesting money. House to house collectors will usually carry identity with them. If you are unsure of someone’s identity you can ask them to call at a later time and contact the charity or police to confirm that collections are ongoing in your local area.

If in doubt, contact your local police on 0845 600 8000.
