Credit union fraud charge

Two Banbridge people have been sent for trial to Newry Crown Court charged with defrauding almost £100,000 from Lower Iveagh Credit Union.

Alistair Winton (39), Iveagh Drive, and Christina Graham (36), Huntly Mews, Banbridge, appeared last Thursday at a preliminary enquiry at Newry courthouse.

It is alleged that between September 1, 2012, and August 1, 2014, they conspired with each other to cheat and defraud members of Lower Iveagh Credit Union. Winton is also charged that between October 3, 2012, and December 22, 2013, he stole credit in various bank accounts to the value of £39,683 belonging to members of the credit union.

Graham also faces a similar charge involving the sum of £59,490.

As well it is alleged that on October 22, 2014, she was in possession of financial documentation belonging to the Lower Iveagh Credit Union.

Both were remanded on their own bail of £250 to appear for arraignment at Newry Crown Court on October 8. Lower Iveagh Credit Union was wound up on Wednesday 19 November 2014.
