Councillors call ‘foul’ on dog owners

COUNCIL staff are to up the ante when it comes to catching those responsible for permitting their pets to foul in public places.

The chronic problem of dog fouling in Banbridge was again raised at the monthly meeting of Banbridge District Council last Monday night and council officers have been asked to be extra vigilant in their efforts to catch offenders.

Councillor Cassie McDermott said Chinauley Park was “a disgrace”, while Councillor Joan Baird pinpointed Dromore Street as being one of the worst places for incidents of dog fouling.

“I know our officers have been out-and-about, but the problem seems to be we can’t seem to catch the culprits,” she said.

Councillor Sheila McQuaid said the Edenderry area also needed attention and she reminded councillors that dog fouling was “the number one complaint” in a survey conducted by the council.
