Councillor praised for support of local club

May I take the opportunity through this column to congratulate Maurice Mills on his Ulster Scots Gatherin held in Cullybackey High School on February 26th in aid of funds for Ballymena United.

Maurice conceived the idea and put all his efforts into booking the artists, organising and printing the programme, to selling the evening out.

On many a cold Saturday during the severe winter wrath he could be seen with his stall selling tickets.

Ballymena United and its supporters are very lucky to have someone of Maurice’s stature committed to sport in the borough.

While others debate and pronounce disdain at the lack of government and local funding, Maurice stepped up to the plate.

It was a wonderful evening and many of our young supporters had never seen such an event. Many thanks for your sterling efforts.
