Council urges green New Year resolutions

THE district’s residents are being urged to make their New Year’s resolution a green one by embracing their new kerbside recycling scheme.

Residents will notice the delivery of a new green bin to their property. This bin is being introduced to replace the current black kerbside box and complement the brown recycling bin, giving greater opportunity for each household to recycle more and help the environment.

The council’s Director of Environmental Services, David Lindsay said, “The delivery of the new recycling bins marks the first visible change to our recycling collection scheme.

Recycling is one of the simplest ways we can all help to create a cleaner, more sustainable local community. The new scheme will make it even easier for everyone to take part in the process.

We are asking residents to continue to use their current recycling boxes until the scheme starts in April. Residents will receive their collection calendar for the new scheme in March as usual.”

“Each bin will contain a welcome pack that includes an information leaflet outlining all the details residents need to be fully involved in the new recycling collection scheme including what can be placed in the bin and collection details. The pack will also contain a selection of stickers, one for each brown, green and black bin plus a sticker for the black caddie which sits inside the green bin.”

Delivery of new green recycling bins will begin this month in preparation for the launch of the new kerbside recycling scheme in April and will be given to each household up until the end of March. Residents are advised if they notice other households in the same area have received their bin and are yet to receive theirs, to please wait before reporting this to the council as their bin may be delivered at a later scheduled date.

The council is also advising residents that the lids on some of the new bins may not shut fully at first, this is due to normal storage and transit conditions which occur during delivery. This is not a manufacturing fault and residents will find that after a few days the lids will settle into the fully closed position.

The council have also provided further information on the new green bin recycling scheme on their website. To find out more go to www.banbridge.gov.uk/kerbsiderecycling. Residents can email any further questions to [email protected].
