Council to let land at Rasharkin Cemetery

BALLYMONEY Borough Council has agreed to let out its additional land at Rasharkin Cemetery.

During a recent Leisure and Amenities Committee meeting, members heard that around 2.8 acres of land ‘is surplus to requirements for the foreseeable future.’

The report explained: ‘Enquires have been made as to whether or not Council would let its additional land at Rasharkin Cemetery. Given that the land, circa 2.8 acres, is surplus to requirements for the foreseeable future, it could be let for grazing, other purposes, for say 4 to 5 years, with the leasee being responsible for fencing and keeping in good heart, etc.

‘As it would not be appropriate to permit access from the county road through the cemetery, the land ought to be offered to its three adjoining land owners by inviting sealed bids.

‘It is recommended that Council offer the land surplus to its present and foreseeable requirements at Rasharkin Cemetery in accordance with the Director’s advice set out above.’

It was proposed by Cllr John Finlay and seconded by Cllr Robert Halliday.
