Council to send letter to Roads Service

THE district's rural roads have been neglected during the recent spate of bad weather according to local councillors.

SDLP councillor Seamus Doyle said people living outside the town have struggled with travel on roads which are not included in the Road Service’s gritting routes.

Members at a local council meeting recently resolved to send a strongly-worded letter to the Roads Service expressing their discontent at the state of the district’s roads.

Many councillors said it is “simply not good enough” that the area seems to come to a standstill any time there is extreme weather.

Councillor McAleenan noted that residents in Norway, where snow is a regular occurrance, change their tyres in winter to cope with the icy conditions.

Councillor David Herron said farmers in the Moneyslane area have found travel and work very difficult over the winter period, will Councillor Paul Rankin called on everybody to “do their bit” during this wintry spell.
