Council praise for Scarva

SCARVA's success in the Britain in Bloom competition was described as a "fantastic result" for the village at the monthly meeting of Banbridge District Council last Monday night.

Council chairman Mr Jim McElroy said the presentation of a Silver Gilt award was an excellent achievement, particularly since Scarva was pitted against entries from all over England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands.

“We did very well indeed to win this Silver Gilt and I was so pleased to represent the council at the awards,” said Mr McElroy.

Scarva councillor, Mr John Hanna, said he was “absolutely delighted” and he commended the “tremendous effort” put in by everyone involved.

“We may not have succeeded in Ulster in Bloom, but I was glad to see Loughgall winning it, as this increases the element of competition, which is a good thing,” said Mr Hanna. “To obtain the Silver Gilt represents a very high standard indeed and means we were very close to the mark.” He also paid tribute to the young people in the village “who helped to keep the area tidy” and the hard-working village committee.
