Council pays tribute to Stephen

BANBRIDGE District Council Chairman Councillor Jim McElroy, accompanied by Vice Chairman Councillor Ian Burns and Chief Executive Liam Hannaway, visited the grieving family of Lance Corporal Stephen McKee last week to express their sympathy about his sad loss.

Speaking after visiting Stephen’s wife Carley, his parents Heather and Bobby and his siblings at their home Mr McElroy said, “We are very saddened to hear that a young man from the Banbridge District has paid the ultimate price while trying to quell insurgent activity in Afghanistan.

“Stephen was a courageous combatant who was highly regarded by members of his regiment. I hope his wife, family and friends take comfort in knowing that he died doing a job he loved while trying to make a difference in one of the most war-torn areas of the world.

“Hopefully this will help ease their pain and give them the strength to come to terms with their loss in the difficult days ahead. My prayers and those of the local community will be with them as they prepare to lay Stephen to rest.”
