Council pays tribute to recently deceased

SYMPATHIES were recently expressed on behalf of Banbridge District Council to the family and friends of one of the founding members of the SDLP as well as a former Primate of All Ireland.

Councillor David Herron led tributes to former Lisburn councillor Peter O’Hagan who died on December 23, saying he had always been “sure of a good chat” with the SDLP man when they met at various council events.

Councillor Seamus Doyle, followed by Councillor John Hanna also paid tribute to Cardinal Cahal Daly’s role in Northern Ireland’s political and social progress during his time as one of the highest ranking members of the Catholic Church in Ireland.

It was agreed to send a letter of condolence to the families of both men.
