The problem of excessive dog attacks in the district has been raised at a meeting of the environmental services committee.

The issue was highlighted by Councillor David Herron who said more measures needed to be taken to ensure that dogs are kept under control.

Head of the Environmental Health, David Lindsay, reported there were 44 attacks on people in the district, although not all resulted in physical injury.

Mr Herron said there was a need for members of the public to report attacks, even if it is only apprehension of attack, as officers “may be able to intervene”.
